The number of cyberattacks leading to incidents continued to decrease in April 2020 as well as in the first four months of the year, specifically, the number of cyberattacks in April decreased by 68.2% compared to the same period last year. Experts said that the work of ensuring information security in Vietnam has made remarkable progress.
One of the goals set by the Ministry of Information and Communications for Vietnam's cyber security and safety in 2020 is that 100% of ministries, sectors and localities deploy solutions to operate, monitor safety, network security, and prevent centralized anti-malware.
Information from the Department of Information Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications, said that in April 2020, the Department's system recorded 203 cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam, leading to incidents. In which, there are 43 attacks of phishing, 89 attacks to change the interface (Deface) and 71 attacks to install malicious code (Malware).
Thus, the number of cyberattacks on information systems in Vietnam leading to incidents in April 2020 decreased by 28% compared to March 2020 and decreased by 68.2% over the same period in April 2019. .
Data from the Information Security Administration also shows that, in the first 4 months of 2020, the system recorded a total of 1,056 cyberattacks on information systems in Vietnam, leading to incidents (553 Phishing attacks, 280 incidents. Deface, 223 Malware), down 51.4% within the first 4 months of 2019.
In the context of cyberattacks increasing strongly in both scale and sophistication, the above positive results have continued to confirm the efforts of state management agencies and businesses in the cybersecurity industry in the work of ensuring Vietnam's network safety and security.
Previously, according to the report of the 2020 mission deployment conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications, in the past 3 consecutive years, the number of cyberattacks on Vietnamese information systems leading to incidents has continuously decreased, from 13,382 in 2017 down to 10,220 in 2018 and to 5,202 in the whole of 2019.
In particular, 2019 is the first year that Vietnam has been assessed by the World Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the group of countries and territories with a high commitment to network safety and security, ranking 50th/175 evaluated countries and territories, up 50 ranks compared to 2017. In the Asia-Pacific region, Vietnam ranks 11/38 and Vietnam's rank in Southeast Asia is 5/11.
Talking to VietNamNet, Mr. Truong Duc Luong, General Director of Vietnam Cybersecurity Joint Stock Company (VSEC), said that there are many reasons contributing to reducing the number of incidents of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam.
In addition, legal regulations and sanctions are more complete and deterrent. The coordination and compliance of major Internet organizations in the world with Vietnamese laws is also better. In particular, the awareness of information security of organizations and individuals has been enhanced, proactive defense measures have been better, and information security assessment has been carried out more.
In addition, during the recent period when many agencies and organizations were working remotely, the authorities and enterprises specializing in information security had many programs and policies to support information security, such as free automated scans, free safety training materials. As a result, organizations and businesses can access information more easily and raise awareness in the safe protection of their digital assets, "said Luong.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc, General Director of CyRadar Information Security Joint Stock Company, the statistics of the Information Security Department on the situation of information safety and security over the past time show remarkable progress of the work of ensuring information security of agencies and organizations in Vietnam. In particular, the decrease in the number of malware attacks shows that agencies and users are more fully and synchronously equipped with standard information security solutions.
However, Mr. Duc also said that we should not be subjective if we only rely on numbers. In fact, sophisticated targeted attacks (APTs) against government blocks can still take place silently and bypass the detection of information security systems. Therefore, the construction of Cybersecurity and Safety Operations Centers (SOCs) at agencies and organizations needs to be well-invested in both technology, operational processes and especially the expertise of engineer team.
In Directive 01 on development orientation of the information and communication industry in 2020, the Minister of Information and Communications emphasized that safety and network security are prerequisites for the development of e-Government and digital transformation. one step. Directive 01 also specifies the targets to be achieved in 2020 in the field of cyber safety and security such as: 100% of agencies and organizations in Vietnam deploy network safety and security protection according to model 4 class; 100% of ministries, sectors and localities deploy solutions to operate, monitor safety, network security, centralized anti-malware, connect and share information with the National Cybersecurity Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Information and Communications…
